I have a 2008, 115hp 4 stroke yamaha outboard on my 19ft Key west. I am having issues getting it started and it appears to be electrical? We had the symptoms of a dead battery about a month ago. The old battery was over a year old so I went to BJ's and bought a comperable deep cycle marine battery. When we installed it the boat started fine and I ran it that weekend. The next weekend I took it out and it started again fine and I ran it that day and I had no issues. I went to start it the following weekend and it acted as if the battery was dead again. At that point I pulled the new battery off and brought it ashore and and hooked it up to the battery charger. The brand new battery started pulling a complete charge as if it was totally dead? I verified no lights or accesories were turned on in the boat. At that point I took the original battery(which had been charging for two weeks and was showing as fully charged on the battery charger) back out and installed it. The boat still acted as if it had a dead battery (would sluggishly turn over but not enough to start). I did not have a lot of time to fool with it last weekend so I figured I would try again today. I took the now fully recharged new battery back out to the boat and hooked it the the old battery via jumper cables and it still acts as if the battery is dead? I checked both batteries with a volt meter and both are fully charged. When I hooked the volt meter to the battery connections entering the motor itself it is showing full power at that point so I think I can safely say it is getting full juice to the motor. When raising and lowering the motor it now sees like it barely has enough juice to raise and lower the motor? If I have two fully charged batteries, nothing is turned on that would draw power and the motor won't crank and is acting like it isn't even getting enough juice to raise and lower the motor what is going on? Unfortunately I can't even get it to shore to take it to the shop at the moment! Any ideas would be grealy appreciated!

Maybe a weak, loose, bad ground connection. remove, check, clean, re-tighten all connections, battery cables, starter connections, etc. Good Luck!

I have cleaned and tightened all of the connections on the battery end? The connections on the engine end are tight and look factory new with no corrosion at all? Needless to say this is killing me because the Bluefish and the Rockfish in the Chesapeake are going nuts right now!

If it's 2008 model it is still under warranty. If you are sure all connections are good I would take it in to the shop and let them check it out.

hook your voltmeter to the engine block and the positive post on the battery, while reading the voltagfe have someone crank the engine.
if voltage drops below 10.5V go find the bad connection or cable.
do a forum search on voltage drop tests.
I have had a few this past month where the cable was tight on the block but the area between the lug and the block was burned and making poor contact.

Checked and cleaned the connections at the engine. Found the block where the battery wires come out of the transom and connect to the battery wires go to the motor. I cleaned those terminals. Found the switch/ fuse in the center console and direct connected that connection to bypass that connection in case it was a bad switch/fuse. None of the above action had any affect on the problem at all. Every place I cleaned I measured to voltage with a volt meter and I am getting a full power measurement yet the motor won't barely turn over and now it barely has the power to raise or lower the motor?

did you actually place the red lead on the solinoid post and the black lead on the engine block and while holding them in that position operate the device?
only way to test it is while operating the device.
