I am working on the subject motor. It will accelerate normally to about 2000 RPM, and try to climb on plane. It then stumbles and the RPMs drop back to idle. We have changed the on motor water separator and the fuel is fresh. We are leaning toward a fuel system problem in the motor. Anyone have an ideas?

We did not scan it, as we do not have the tools. I suspect the stator is good, as she bogs down at different RPMs. We have taken it to a Merc mechanic at a local place. I hope he is up to working on an Optimax.

I suspect a bad sensor, faulty high pressure fuel pump, faulty compressor or some kind of oil or water filter on the compressor. The owner has done zero maintenance, other than the motor's water separator, gearoil and the waterpump I talked him into installing last year.

Yep, I'd be leaning toward a sensor, pcm, or even erratic signal voltage. Hopefully your Merc tech will find the problem with a scan. Technology kinda sucks sometimes.

Jim, According to the mechanic, the issue was with one (or more) of the check valves. I presume he meant the ones in the oil reservoir/injection system. It seems to be working OK now......
