Hello everyone: My boat just starting beeping 6 successive (very loud) beeps about 5 min after I start the boat. This is not the regular startup alarm before starting the boat. I noticed that the gas gauge was on "E" so I thought it was an alarm for low fuel so I put 10 gal of gas in it. The gas gauge did not budge and still on E and the 6 beeps did not go away. Other things I have done recently before I noticed the beeps: I changed the lower unit gear oil and put the battery on trickle charger for the winter. Interestingly, the beeps come on even when the key is in but the boat is not started. Any ideas what these beeps mean?

I don't know if it from overheating because it does it even when the boat is not running with just the key in the ignition.

Hi there, what engine model do you have? Is your engine serial number handy too?

While the warning horn could be a multiple of things, if the gear lube (green/blue oil) reservoir/bottle mounted on the engine is low, the warning horn would sound even with the engine not running but key on to ignition. Sometimes the internal float sensor will stick down after a oil change as the reservoir should be cleaned every few years. due to heavy oil sludge build up.

Since the fuel gauge doesn't seem to move, is the volt gauge showing 12+ volts when the key is turned to ignition?

Also we're going to go ahead and move this topic to Mercury MerCruiser Sterndrives & Engines Sponsored by Quicksilver Propellers.

Hello: I have a 3.0 Merc. I will look up the serial number when I get home. I will also check those things you mentioned. Thanks.
