I have a 1998 200hp TXECM I have rebuilt all carbs, replaced all fuel lines, checked VRO and all proper pressures. I took it out yesterday and lord does she pop up in hole shot . Trims out pretty but as we go up on RPMs it surges up and down pull throttle back to 38oo-4000 she runs along. I read the book and it suggest possibly a vent problem or reed valves coiuld be bent. Any suggestions? What could cause them to bend or break? If they were bent would'nt that cause a problem all the way up?

The reeds are probably not the issue. If there is a reed or reed box gasket issue you'll probably notice it more at idle. Surging is more related to fuel pressure and flow. Kinda odd that the fuel restriction warning didn't sound. Anyway, if the carbs were just gone thru you might think about rechecking the float height.

This is assuming the surging is fuel related and the loss of rpm is not an ignition issue. Basically the difference between surging and missing.

Thank you for the quick reply It surges rpms up down up down but back off to 3800 she runs perfect just not the speed I want. I will recheck the floats as I just installed them without measuring
