Please bear with me and read the full article before accusing me of being in the wrong forum. Two summers ago, my 1999 Evinrude started having problems not wanting to run. I took it to three different dealers, all of which were unable to repair the engine. I was looking at replacing the Evinrude with a Mercury of comparable power. The problem was that there was a 54-week lead time for a loose Mercury outboard. So, I started searching the internet and found a place late last summer in PA. which rebuilds outboards. No, I didn't get the Evinrude rebuilt, but instead they rebuilt a 200hp Mercury Optimax, approximately a 2005 model. Now here's my question, I have 5 gallons of XD-50 which I no longer need since I no longer have that Evinrude. Mercury recommends their Optimax DFI 2 cycle oil, not a problem. What I'd like to know is, how does BRP's XD-50 compare the Mercury's Optimax DFI oil? So far, I haven't been able to find any comparisons between the two different oils. I thank anyone in advance for any information regarding this matter. If I can't use the XD-50, then I'll put it up for sale.

You need DFI oil, sell the remainder on Marketplace, Strictly OMC or Craigslist. Hope that wasnt Blackbird you got it from...

It was, so now I'm curious, why not Blackbird. What kind of problems have you or others experienced from Blackbird?

I generally look at the bad reviews to see what kind of problems have been experienced by others although some of those are not wholly truthful. So far, the engine ran great last season, and hopefully will continue to do so.
