200hp Outdrive

I want to do a water pump replacement & bearing inspection on a '88 200hp. I've worked on a # of mercruisers before. The proplem is removing the vertical/input shaft, I got the nut loose at the gear & the pump housing off. Any hints/ tips/ pictures?

Blake, If you are trying to pull the driveshaft out of a 200HP Merc OB gearcase, you need to say so. I don't know if you are working on an Alpha waterpump or what. BTW Alpha and OB gearcases are pretty similar.

I recommend you update the post and say what you are doing. A waterpump rebuild is quite different that removing the driveshaft pinon nut.

I got a ruff bearing so while I'm in there I'm changing the pump too. Is there a fancy spanner nut under the pump too?

I got the spanner nut & bearing cup out from under the pump & the nut off the pinion gear, but the drive shaft still wont slide out.
