The hitch is the little device at the back that is essential to the task at hand: towing more than 5k.

Hook up your 6,000 lb boat/trailer and you are over the rating of that hitch.

Guess what: You get a hitch rated for 5k lbs. That's it. I am sure none of you are running around setting up weight distributing attachments, because that is what you need to properly tow over 5k with these trucks listed above.

I guess you could visit the local hitch guy and get a real Class IV hitch. Your call.

Not trying to be snarky, Read the stickers, Curt makes one in 6k/ rated, non weight distributed. My van is rated for 5k MAX, so it got a 6k hitch! ( please excuse the sideways photo, I was upside down! And the busted safety chain loop- these are not for vehicle recovery:redface:)

Guess what! I use a weight distributing hitch on my 1/2T Silverado pulling a 7K load. On my 3/4T Suburban, I replaced the factory hitch with one that had an 8K dead weight rating. So...don't talk for everyone.

I would hate to see another boater denied his claim.

Over on speedwake, a guy lost his rig and was denied his insurance claim. Why should the insurance company pay for his loss when he towed a 6700 lb boat/trailer on a hitch rated for 5000?

He's out about 14 grand. He keeps making the monthly payments, but their ain't no boat to go along with them! Now THAT stings.

Care to share that link? I'd like to read the story.
