Just bought the 2010 Glastron with the Volvo SX-A drive and one of the trim rams has a seep just two days in.
I have faith in you Tail Gunner, please let me know how to fix this.
Thanks

Any chance it is covered under warranty? Otherwise it depends on where the leak is coming from. If its the at the wiper seal where the stainless steel hydraulic piston goes into the housing, then you'll probably need to buy a reseal kit which are about $100. I have been told that resealing isn't always successful, but with the price of a new ram assembly close to $500, that would be my first step. If the leak is coming from the hydraulic lines at the front of the ram, then there is a possibility that you can replace the o-rings on each line. I removed mine, assuming it was a leaky internal seal, and both of the o-rings were crushed. These o-rings might not come out when you unscrew the male line, so take a look down inside the female part on the ram. I am awaiting parts to replace them and reinstall, hoping that does it!

Just google this: 0985060 SEAL KIT,T&T COBRA...26.97 i cant post the link for other reasons

Thats the part you will need a spanner wrench to open the cylinder cap....Open it pull the orings (two i believe) and reseal it. One note the instruction's will tell you to cut a sleeve from a pop can..make it to there spec but go to a 2 1/2" longer sleeve. 30 minute job

This is a hydrualic ram cyclinder becareful not to scratch the internals by any means...lubricate the ram and rings well prior to install.....Look at your ram well for any minute scratches or built up corrison somehting casued that ring to fail

Hey TG, you do know he is not referring to the SX/DP-S drive like you have, he is referring to the SX-A/DPS-A type drives. They have also went through several trim cylinder changes over the past few years.

Looks like i'm outdated....just ask my wife...At this point that kit is a shot in the dark.....But its a cheap bet to find out....At worst take them apart and driver all over town finding the right o-rings....There a common size and simple to repair.

atcually that kit should work. If you mic a sx ram and its the same size as the SX-A/DPS ram along with the endcaps all should be good.

Re: 2010 Volvo Penta SX-A drive trim ram cylinder leak

Thanks for all the replies.
I did call Volvo yesterday and found out that even though my little boat is a 2010, she was purchased in April of 2011 and there should be almost a year left on the warranty. I hope they will honor it cause the boat was repoed from the original owner, then purchased by a dealer who sold it to me.
Thanks again, it's great info.
