Hello,

A few months ago, I bought a 2011 1750 Tyee with a 24V bowmount. I need to install an onboard charger and I am considering a 25 AMP Marinco Battery Charger 2623 Marine. Is this a good choice?

Also, where on the boat would be best to install this charger?

Thank you,

Can't comment on brand of charger, but our Lund Fisherman is very close in layout to the Tyee and the factory put our charger in the port side compartment just ahead of the console. The trolling motor batteries on ours are under the port and starboard consoles, so very close to the onboard charger.

If you don't mind, what brand did the factory install? My dealer wants $250 for a dual bank 20 Amp Minn Kota charger 1 hour install charge. I think I can do this myself for much less.

Would it be possible for you to snap a picture of the compartment and where they mounted it? That would be very helpful.

Thanks,

The brand name says "Lund," but we all know it is something else. My guess is it is from Minnkota since that is the brand of trolling motor they installed.

Unfortunately, "Sweetheart," as we like to call her, is in storage, so I can't get a new photo for you. And I don't have any of the open compartment in my photo library, either. Sorry.

Truth be known, the last I heard about our boat was last mid-November when our dealer was prepping it to be returned to the factory. I had noticed in our second year that the water line on the port side was 2" higher than the one on the starboard side. Lund agreed to repaint the boat under warranty. Not sure where "Sweetheart" is now, but after repainting she was supposed to be shrink-wrapped and put in storage. Hope to get her back on May 1. Our dealer, R&R Marine in Shakopee, MN has been fabulous, so I don't bother them with pesky calls. -Ken

So the paint was crooked? Did Lund cover the transportation costs?

The paint wasn't crooked (would have noticed that right away), just not even from one side to the other. Caught a glimpse of it one day while standing directly in front of the bow while it was in the garage. The water lines met at the bow correctly, but then flowed away onto the sides at different levels. Goofy looking.

Factory covered transportation. I offered to drive it up there, but factory had better idea. The dealer received a new shipment from Lund, and put my boat on the trailer for the trip back to New York Mills. Dealer had to remove engine, swim ladder and drain the gas tank. I still owe for winterizing (to be paid when I pick up boat), and I offered to cover the cost of storage when the boat is returned. I'm not sure where "Sweetheart" is now, but not losing sleep over it.

Good to hear that Lund took care of you with this problem. I received my Guest 20 Amp dual charger from amazon.com yesterday. Now I have to figure out a good location. Like your Fisherman, the port compartment is close to the port console battery. On Sunday I can take a better look.

Did you have any heat issues with the charger mounted in the compartment? What things did you store inside there?

Our charger is mounted near the rear to open up the rest of the dry storage compartment for other things. I store some repair/maintenance/cleaning items in it (spare prop, prop wrench, small block of wood, tube of grease, paper towels, squeege, sponge, etc) along with a large bath towel and a warm neck scarf if I need to haul in someone from the cold water. Oh, and there's also a Type IV PFD and line in there.

Yes, it does get warm when the charger is plugged in, so I remove the items closest to the charger first and keep the compartment lid open. The charger came with small feet beneath the base to allow air to circulate under it.

Re: 2011 Tyee 1750 Onboard Charger Install

I did get my charger installed in the forward port compartment. It looks like the same spot as your factory install, since there were notches in the wall to allow for the wiring to route around to the port console battery and then under the floor to the starboard one. I did not have a chance to take any pictures but will. I also need to put some sort of plastic molding at the top of the notch to keep the wires from wearing down with vibration.

I picked up a connection port to place in the port console that allows me to plug in direct. I have to drill a 1 3/4 hole into the console. Not something I am looking forward to screwing up.

Thanks for your help. I hope to post some images here so others can see how I did this my self and saved about 200 dollars.

Your question earlier was what brand charger Lund uses....they put a Lund sticker on a Dual Pro brand charger. They are either 2 bank or 3 bank depending on the configuration. The Dual Pro chargers are fantastic, but are expensive. There is nothing wrong with the Guest charger that you bought...

Can you send me a picture of your install and also if you recieved one from the other person? I have a 2007 1750 Tyee. My port storage is lined with carpet so I don't see the grooves you talk about on my boat. I was looking at installing a Guest 2 bank on the go charger. Thank in advance.
