Have to pull my motor out of my boat. Are there any manuals online that can guide me on this endeavor. Some how my cylinder wall is gouged. Can’t seem to find any broken or cracked parts that could have caused it. Anyone have any pointers. What need to be removed in the transom? Think I hear that there might be a bolt that goes through transom. Any advice would be appreciated.

with ANY I/O boat engine except the old OMC's

pull the drive (you should be doing this for yearly maintenance)
disconnect the battery and the ground cable to the back of the block
unplug the large harness plug
disconnect the throttle and shift linkages
disconnect and plug the fuel lines
disconnect and plug the PS actuator lines
disconnect the exhaust (remove the manifolds to make the assembly lighter)
remove the bolts from the front and rear motor mounts
lift the motor out

Scott has it can be done in less than 2 hrs even if you are doing ti the first time. Factory manual will show all these items. No through transom bolts need to be undone to remove the engine. There are two bolts on the flywheel cover that bolt to inner transom plate but plate stays on the transom. I found it easier to slightly lift the engine then disconnect the battery cable and trim pump cable at the starter lug

Biggest issue for shade tree mechanic will be getting a lifting device as that can go high enough.

WHy are you pulling the engine ?
