The Admirals Cadillac (110K miles) thru a P0442, which can be (from what I read) a vacuum leak in the tank, lines, purge valve, vent valve or canister. Jacked the car up and looked all over the place and could find nothing which stood out. First thing to check was the gas cap.

Web says the vent valve goes out more often then the purge valve, but one intermittent symptom leads me to the purge. Every now and then prior to the CEL, would come to a stop and for a few seconds the idle would be real rough. Then as soon as it came it would be gone and not do it again for a day to a month.

Found where I should pull the vales and connect a hand vacuum pump to see if they hold.

Anyone have any dealings with this kind of issue?

Fixed two 0442 codes with new gas caps

Worth a shot, cheap enough, but cap looks fine, guess I could replace the O ring.

Did notice that I do smell gas every now and then just walking away in a parking lot, but not sure it was from the car. Did some looking but never found anything

Will it wasn't the cap. Connected a vacuum pump to the purge vale, not a real good fit on the hose but could not draw any vacuum. Guess I'll throw another 30 at it and see what happens

Fuel tank pressure sensor could be flaky. Or "fuel level sensor only" if guage in car not showing proper level I bet on fuel tank pressure sensor since it gives bad reading to computer it will effect the evap systems operation

My gauge has been dead nuts on with how many gallons remain. Every time I fill up I'm doing a mental calculation as to how much it should have used and its real close.

Last time I filled up, I did notice that it would only take gas slowly and would kick the pump off. Did read up in older models there was an issue with the fill tube and tank vent.

I ordered the purge valve and vapor canister vent valve. They came in today, so tomorrow or the next day I'll get around to installing and see if that fixes the issue

Haven't owned a Chevy in many years and while I do like the car, its been one thing after another every so many months.

Fuel pressure sensor signal to computer controls the operation or non operation of the purge valve and solenoid. What model of caddy do you have? 3.6 ?

Yes, its a 3.6
Would think there would be another code if the fuel pressure sensor was having an issue

You could do a smoke test on the cheap also . Take a funnel stick in filler so opens valve ,tape up really well then smoke a cigar and blow only the smoke into funnel the more the better , place rag into funnel and watch for smoke

I have had many issues with GM tank vent solenoids. Exact issues as you describe. I seem to have solved this by replacing assy and then re routing vent hose to somewhere higher in the engine bay.

Right now I know its not keep the vacuum on the tank, remove cap and hear nothing. Its to cold out today so next warm day I'll install the two valves. While I'm at it might remove and check out the filter canister.

That could work if that's the issue, but it doesn't list the SRX (CTS) and says there is no release of fumes.

Wife just tried to use the remote start and now that didn't work. I went to the garage and stood beside it, it lit up the brakes lights but would not start with remote. Got inside and it did start using the push to start

As before, like the car but thinking this may be my last Chevy again for a while

Eh chevy maybe caddy..You couldn't draw vac from purge you say . Are you talking left side of air intake towards front of engine. If so simply pull vac hose off one going to intake ,with engine running feel if it is pulling vacuum if so replace it . It shouldn't pull vac at idle

I changed out the Purge and vent valves. Pulled the purge off and I can blow air thru the valve so it was leaking. Did a 3 mile round trip and light is still on. Dealer says I need to do at least a 10 mile trip for the computer to have enough time to test and reset.

Did find out there is another code which is P0496 Evap non purge, which goes along with the P0442. Looked at the data that was stored when it first happened and it says it was a slight leak. Weird thing with the data is it shows it was doing 158mph and fuel pressure was at 22##.# (so over 2200 psi). Did look real close for mph and not kph and psi.

Guess it could be my scanner but everything else shows correctly. In any case in the next day or so we'll run into town (10 miles) and see if it clears. If it doesn't clear I'll decide to replace the canister or take it to the dealer
