Pretty cool.

I've never been to a yacht race. I'd imagine there would be anchoring areas near the course to watch the action? I'm a couple hours from the Bay, and could see going down to see some of it from the water...sounds like something fun, and memorable, to do with the kids.

There will be places to watch the race, but bear in mind that your mobility will be restricted somewhat by the USCG and various other marine LEO. Really, a sailboat race like this is better seen on TV, because you'll get multiple views from helicopters, boats, etc. To watch it from your own boat, will mean that you get only short glimpses of the sailboats from a near vantage point.

If you are not familiar with SF Bay, be careful of weather. The Bay has an average depth of only 14' and it can get quite rough, if the wind is blowing. Weather permitting though, its a great place to be.

Have fun!
