I have a new 2014 Mercury 115 ProXS. I bought it with the boat new in late this past July (6 months ago). I have about 60-65hrs on the motor now and I use ethanol treatment every time I add fuel (treatment added matches recommended ounces per gallon of fuel added). I typically use Marine Sta-Bil but I have tried some of Mercury?s Fuel treatment (1 bottle). I have also used a bottle of Mercury?s fuel system cleaner as well after break in around 30-35hrs.
I decided to check the fuel filter to see how it looked. With gas soaked in the element, it looked terrible. So I got a new filter. With the old filter out of the motor for 24hrs, the element?s fuel evaporated and ?dried out? so I could have a side-by-side comparison with the new filter. See attached images. It still seems a bit dirty to me with only 6mo of use. I get fuel consistently between 2 new fuel stations that are less than 2yrs old. Same supplier also. I have gotten gas at other stations but only 2-3 time total and I?m particular of where I buy fuel.
I have also confirmed my fuel lines are alcohol resistant and meet regulations so the fuel line does not show drying or cracking on the outside although the inside is where initial damage and drying out will occur.
I also tapped the filter on a black garbage bag to see if any granules came out. The only thing that came out were tiny white powder like granules that were not course like sand. Closer to powder than a course textured granule.
Should I be concerned? I?m not currently. Just thought I would share and ask.
