Hello all, I am fairly new to the forum so I will apologize in advance if this topic has been brought up before. I have a 2017 Mercury 75hp 4 stroke on my pontoon. I recently had a new powerhead installed due to catastrophic failure. On my receipt, it stated the powerhead was a 115hp. When I questioned the dealer he said they were the same 75, 90 and 115. He said the horsepower difference is from some computer settings on the motor. Question is, how hard would it be to get this thing bumped up a little bit. I could stand to gain a few mph.. anyone know what device would be needed to make this change? Thanks, Mike

In general, it's an intake restrictor and an ECU that is different. Some cases may have injectors that are different. But yes, even that mechanic should be able to swap you some HP if you hand him about a grand or so

Hi. It is the same. But it’s not so much to do with restrictions and all that old school stuff. It’s in the ecu mapping for these. The 115 has much more rpm from it. 75 has the lowest mapping. Then the 90…then the 100, then the 115…then the 115 pro Xs. All the same engine…different rpm output.
