2019 Grand Cherokee came with wrong size spare....Just found it out

My car has 235x45x18 wheels/tires and the spare looks like a wheelbarrow wheel ......but I have only had one flat in probly 15 years and that was a tennis ball sized quarried ( sharp pointy corners ) rock that came off a truck going tother way ........saw it coming but just couldnt swerve quick enough ( didnt want to spill beer ) and then I couldnt get the #ucking wheel nuts off , wound up using crutch tube as an extension ....and wreaked it in the process... Bought a 40cm breaker bar and socket for both vehicles .
Anyhow to the OP the wheel is within
¼ inch rolling circumference of the road wheel .....its the right one , I know it sucks but its only there to get you home .

I remember when bumpers and spare tires were not standard on pickup trucks. I also know that things like turn signals and mirrors used to be dealer added along with spare tires.

if an emergency spare doesnt sit well, get a full-sized spare and mount it on a tire carrier.

Glad you brought this up Charlie, my spare is hanging under the bed of my 2001 gmc , never needed it. Guess I should replace it just in case I do need it. Look what you have started.lol

I can remember in the old days, your spare was part of your yearly tire rotation. Yep all 5 of your tires were rotated to even out the wear ! Ouch, guess I am really showing what an old fart I am......

UPDATE....turns out that the 18" spare is the proper spare from the manufacturer.or it at least is making more sense and here is why.On a Jeep forum a member sent me a tire size calculator.When I put the 17" tire size in with the 18" spare, the tire size calculator had the tire height exactly the same at 30.5" and the rev/miles exactly the same at 661.Also my matching wheel and tire sits 1 " higher in the well and the firm foam jack holder does not sit right inside the matching wheel. Hard to believe.The calculator is very cool check it out. tiresize.com I still dont get it but seems manufacturer correct. Has to be a cost saving thing.Charlie

I make sure I operate and lubricate the lowering mechanism in my '08 silverado also.
I've read the stories of flats in the middle of nowhere only to find out the lowering mechanisms are rusted and locked up because of non use.

My brother owned a 1999 Ferrari F-355 Berlinetta and we were driving up to Lime Rock Park raceway for an event some years back. Got a flat, and all it had was a can of fix a flat. Not going to work for this so we had it flatbedded to the one shop in Conn. that had the right size Bridgestone tires. Once there I had to show the clowns how to jack up a Ferrari, they knew it was too low to put it on their lift. "OK guys, go over to that Hyundai, get me the scissors jack out of the trunk and I'll show you how it's done" lol. True story.

Yep I have a similar repair kit in my 2025 Crown Signia. There are "spare tires" that fit however vehicle modification is required - no thanks. I will call for repair

No longer worth changing your own, at my age, changing a flat along a highway is not something I want to do anymore. I have been carrying road coverage on my insurance, for 25 bucks a year, my insurance co will send someone out to bring gas or change a flat tire. Never ran out of gas but have used the spare tire change feature a couple times in the past 5 years.
Well worth the minimal cost....
