transom.jpg

Ok, same ole' story and looking for advice. I am a quite capable and handy person with projects, but am thinking this through before making any cuts of any kind. This is where I hope you all could help. I will try to post a pic of the back of the boat. basically, the transom is flexing around the motor mounting bracket, and some previous screw holes from accessories ect are leaking the tea stain. there is also a small (2-3 in) crack in the mounting section of the back of the transom near the lower right mounting bolt. I'm already aware I will need to most likely cut the splash well out in order to do the "best diy" job I can. My questions mostly begin at... How do I "tie" the new wood into the sides or stringers to regain strength, and when preparing to begin cutting my inner transom wall out to access the rot, do I cut away from the knees that are like elbow brackets the go from the stringers to the transom? By cut away I mean do I cut straight down the wall or cut the knees out and rebuild them?

thanks,

Some pics of the interior portion of the transom would help us to guide you. I'm not familiar with this boat but some CC's have what I call "Tub" construction where the entire interior of the boat is place inside the hull with the hull being foamed. This makes repair more difficult. The interior shots of the transom and sides of the hull will give us some clues.

As I look at everything further this eve, I see that my transome top rail or "cap is 3 inches wide. I am not 100% sure what the best way to start move forward is. thanks

As I said before, I am not familiar with this style of boat, but I'm sure we have a lot of knowlegeable folks that will be along. I do think it is a Tub construction so it will be a bit more challenging. Pics are Great. I might suggest one a bit further away from the transom so they can see it in total from the inside.

I am going with SeaCast. I know this has its pros and cons and an enthusiast may even curse me for my decision. I am going to post step by step pics along with my personal experience for anyone who may find this interesting. I hope to have it done in about 3-4 weekends of work. Wish me luck.
