Howdy, dokpc. You don't look like an idiot, that's a good motor. What is the problem?
JB

Hey, dokpc. Somewhere around here I have an owner's manual for a 1985 Johnson 25 that you are welcome to if you want it. I think they are very close, except for carb details and some technology details. If you want it Email me at jbshideout@aol.com.

cheers.
JB

Re: 20hp evinrude

I have had several evinrude 20hp's. A 20hp is basically a 25-35 hp, their based on the same block and are nearly identical to each other. A manual from 1985 to new is about the same as your motor, in fact, a new one is so close you could get a new manual and it should suffice, its a good motor!

Mr. J.B. Cornwell, I have a 1972 Evinrude 25hp Sportster. If, in your opinion, it is closely related to the 1985 and if the original party posting to the group has no need of your manual I would put it to good use. Please let me know at success@ceoathome.com. My ten year old daughter and I are messing with the engine and it would be nice to know how it should be set up.

Re: 20hp evinrude

Hey, Wade Lovell. I made a small error: The manual I have is for a 1988, not a 1985. I think the differences are trivial. I don't know if it reaches back to 1972, though. Does your 1972 have through the prop hub exhaust? If so they are probably compatible. Post your reply and if we have a match then we go to Email,. Okay?

JB

Re: 20hp evinrude

I just bought a envinrude 25 motor and its around a 1978 or so maybe a little older im not sure, but I have had a little trouble with it, when i first got it it ran great at high speeds but only hit on one cylinder, now it hits on one cylinder all the time, I have had the motor for 6 months and 5 of that has been in the shop. the boat dude says that this motor is junk becuase it has points instead of cdi ignition, what is the problem with it and why is running like junk
