Hi,

I have a merc 125 outboard and with my 21p aluminum it runs at 5200, exactly at max 5200. I can get about 45mph by myself in the boat. With family little over 40. I want to get a ss prop, my question is from the expirience of you guys is there a prop that will defintley give me some top end gain. What I am looking for is to get 45 out of her with my family in the boat. Boat is a 17ft Rinker captiva. Thanks

Re: 21p SS question

Outboards are known to have sweet spots in the rpm band..Id go to the outboard forum and see if that motor is doing its best at the stated rpm band..Dont be surprised if they recomend much higher rateings...You might take a pic of you boat..transom motor combo that show how low or high your prop is in relationship to the hull. Much can be done with O/B's and a 5 mph bump is big.;)

Re: 21p SS question

I will post in the outboard forum also, I am more wondering if their is a prop recommendation that guys have for a 21p ss that for sure will add top end speed. I don't care about the low end, my but is light and planes quickly. Just looking for numbers on guys that switched props and gained some mph. Thanks

Re: 21p SS question

Well the merc enertia is a known performer....Turbo.. Stilletto...Solas HR all great speed props..But outboards have to setup properly to get top results...Engine height...correct rpm band....then prop type..and again 5mph is huge hopefully your motor height isnt quite on..If not you might just get there...Maybe Dhadley or Walleyehed will advise..if they do pay attention..;)

Re: 21p SS question

Thanks tailgunner,

I do realize all those things matter, my motor is in the lowest setting and seems perfect. I do run in the optimal max rpm with my 21p. 5mph is a stretch but I am gonna save up over winter and get a ss prop next spring so I do have a lot of research to do.
