My daughters boat, she cant see the direction the motor is in when leaving the dock, loading and such. is the some kind of monitor/indicator like a rudder position gauge for sail boats and such?

No heading indicator I'm familiar w except to learn/know how many turns of the wheel lock to lock and having the wheel centered at the helm when the outdrive is dead ahead straight.

just stick a spring-pole flag on the outboard?

back-up cameras are real cheap too.

Do a google search on "Davis Rudder Position Indicator"

It sticks to the center of the steering wheel and indicates rudder position. About 20 bucks....
