I am the proud owner of a 1979 22' Starcraft Islander. I'm looking for the extruded aluminum trim that was used around the cockpit area. It was used to hold the inner vertical piece to the horizontal gunwhale. It looks like a squished letter P with an extra stem to form a channel that the 2 pieces fit into. I will try to get a pic up to better explain it. Thanks in advance.

Re: 22' Islander Cockpit Trim

I followed your rebuild of the Islander on line. I bought mine last September. It's a 120hp OMC Stringer. I've heard the horror stories. But when I took it out on the water last fall all was good. Besides, I only paid 1k for it on a trailer! I went the opposite way from what you did. I am in the process of converting it into a center console. I need the trim to finish areas that were cut. The trim was already there I just need more to finish up the metal work. I'm also looking for a center console, bare of course. By the way I have a very nice, nearly new vinyl top with very clear windows that needs a new home. I have the frame and tracks to go with it as well.

Yah, as long as the Stringer is running good all is aok. It's when they start to need work done and parts - tragedy and heartbreak!

Man, we really need to check out your conversion! This big hull as a CC would be sweet!

I was thinking I might be able to help you out on trim but if you went CC you are going to need a lot huh?

I'll take all the trim I can get. Let me know what you have and what you want for it. The boat is at my parents house right now. Pops has all the really good tools! As far as the stringer goes, if it dies it's gone. I'll hang an outboard and be done. That will make it even lighter. The weather has been so bad here I can't get much work done on it.

Super smart plan!

Hey, I'll see what I can come up with for trim. In the meantime see what you can come up with on Islander CC photos;)

I will. Thanks. The thing I like about the stringer is how quiet it is and how amazingly agile it is around the dock. It will spin in it's own length. Amazing

I'm heading over tomorrow to attempt to take some pics. Does anybody else have any trim? I will measure how much I need. Maybe a center console lying around? Thanks

So get out there by the boat. NO camera. Stupid, stupid, stupid  Anywho, I don't need any trim. I'm going a different route. I think it will look much nicer when finished. Happy Easter everyone.

Re: 22' Islander Cockpit Trim

I considered just going with some simple aluminum angle stock all the way around. I think it would be a simple, good looking solution.

I kinda backed off of that route as I am adding a cockpit combing pad all the way around. My trim will give the pad just a little protection from folks climbing in/out of the boat.

Hey man, we still need some photos! I hope you don't think you are off the hook just cuz you don't need the trim!

Cheers man!:D

There will be pics, don't worry. First things first, I need to change the front wheel bearings/hubs on my truck. I'm not happy.
