i have a 22' walkaround 1989 galaxy.
it has a 4.3 mercruiser with an alpha drive.(175hp)
the motor is original.
it is a saltwater boat.
i asume that the block is rusted after 20 years of saltwater use.
the drive is frozen so all i have is a 22'walkaround that needs a new motor.

now i was thinking to repower it with a outboard.
i have a 25" 150 evinrude.
i will have to put this on a bracket.

does anybody have a 22' galaxy who can tell me about the handling of the boat.

the 4.3 with drive right now is about 850lbs

the 150 including bracket wil be about 500lbs

let me know what you guys think

Re: 22' walk around conversion

with that weight difference you may be one of the lucky ones, that it works out. most are not happy with the conversions. because it throws the center of gravity too far back. making it extremely hard to get out of the hole. may have to throw some tab on it. but seeing you have everything, i would go for it.

Re: 22' walk around conversion

the major thing im concerned about is if the transom is strong enough.

first i have to get the 4.3 out and scrap it.

i dont know enything about this boat and its the first galaxy 22' walk around i have ever seen.
may be somebody has done this before?

i dont think the weight distribution is a problem in this case.
it is a gamble
the outcome is unknown.
all i have to do is buy a bracket and spend some time installing things.
and i will have to get new steering, cables, etc.

would like to see some i/o conversions or get some feedback on done jobs.

Ayuh,....
Of the 6 I've seen,... All were Junked by season's end due to handling Issues from the weight shift....

As for the Transom,...
The Only way to Know, is to crawl in,+ Look....

i saw one of these done on a grady. The issue he had was again the weight shifting back. He compensated by moving stuff fwd, gas tank, batteries etc.
