Check these off:
Battery is up to the correct voltage.
Fuse is good.
Good connections. (take them off and clean them)
The safety lanyard is in place.
Wiggle/jiggle the shifter as you turn the key.

When you come back we'll have more suggestions.
There are a lot knowledgeable people here.

If you had NO SPARK and replaced ONE switchbox and now have spark on one side of the motor, it may be a bad Bias circuit in the remaining switchbox. (You may have changed the wrong box)

A bad bias will cause the OTHER box to not fire.

Test by disconnecting the Bias (white wire) linking the two boxes and retest for spark. DO NOT attempt to stark the motor. If you now have spark on all cyls replace the 2nd box.

You might try the first removed box in the second position, it may still be good.

Merc recommends replacing boxes in pairs. If they are CDI boxes it is acceptable to replace only the one defective box.

Here is where I must add a little notation... get yourself a manual my friend. You will go broke just replacing parts. Find out why the spark went bad and fix that problem (if possible). Knowing all about your engine makes for smart repairs and less part replacements for no reason. 8^)

Bad switchbox as posted earlier or stator low speed winding is bad....

well thank you i tried to do what you said and still nothing on 1/3/and 5 but i was also told it might be something under the flywheel but it was not the stator it was something about timing if that helps and thank you, i really mean it id be lost if it wasnt for the site, do you think you might know what that is and what its called

Re: 220 mariner nospark on cyl. 1/3/and 5

Two items under the flywheel, the stator and the trigger assy.

The trigger assy contains three triggers, each fires two cyl's, one on each switchbox. When a trigger fails it will cause a 'no spark' on two cyl's, not three. It is highly unlikely that you have a problem with a trigger.

The stator has TWO sets of low speed windings and TWO sets of high speed windings, one set of each for each switchbox. It IS likely that you have a bad low speed winding on the stator.

Test this by switching the red and blue stator wires from each switchbox to the other, if spark then changes to the other side of the motor then order a new stator.
