Hi all, my main question is (after viewing pic) will it work without blowing the house up?? admittedly, my electrical-fu is weak. but i think i can grasp the concept. This is for a hot tub. 6/3 w/ground feeding sub panel from main panel. Thanks for the help!

Can't tell from your pic how you are pulling off the main panel or where the sub panel is, if the sub panel is near the hot tub I would have a disconnect in the main panel for the sub panel.

main panel to sub panel is 30'. sub panel to hot tub is 20' . sub panel is rated outdoor, but is mounted in a permanent dry location. Real blurry, sorry. the main panel has a 60a 220v dbl pole gfci breaker. Sub panel has 2 dbl pole 30a breakers.

It is not clear (at least to me :)) from your diagram how the 6/3 cable is connected at the two panels.
At main, the red and black go to the 60 A. breaker and the white to the neutral bus.
At sub, it should not go to any breakers. (unless there is a main breaker, which I would doubt.) Red and black terminate at line buses, white to neutral bus.
Check codes in your jurisdiction, but irrespective of their minimum, I'd suggest a disconnect before both the sub panel and the hot tub. (obviously if your sub-panel has a main breaker you don't need a dx)

Yes it will work, but if yo don't have a main in the sub. Put a disconnect in line close to the sub.

tim the white goes to the breaker not the netrual as its a gfci breaker then a seperate pig tail from the breaker going to the netrual bar. beware that nec and state electical codes love hot tubs so i would invest in having a licenced electrician do the final inspection just to keep the home owners insurance happy.

^^This is VERY true. Hot tubs and pools have their own "codes." Some of which are kinda tough to understand. Give a licensed electrician and the inspector a phone call before installation. It may be worth it!
