Re: 225 E tec fouling plugs

Are the engines pulling off the same fuel tank or seperate tanks? If same tank are they pulling from a shared supply line or seperate withdraw fittings in tank? Has your lady spoke over 21 million words?:D ...........Just had to throw that in!!!!

the boat has two 30 gal saddle tanks one 115 gal main just repowered last year had 225 opti's on it also go through about 32k in fuel a season on this work boat so even if i got a batch of bad gas it is long gone plus nothing is showing in the filters/strainers it happens with a load around 3200 rpm

Re: 225 E tec fouling plugs

ETEC outboards are set to run XD-30/XD-50 from the factory. If the engines are then switched to XD-100, the EMM is supposed to be reset for that oil. By doing so, the oil delivery rate is cut in half.

I don't know if failure to do this would cause fouling, but you might want to look into this if you are running XD-100.

BTW, there is no breakin period for an ETEC and there is no EMM adjustment for "breakin."

Re: 225 E tec fouling plugs

There is extra oil injected for the first 4-5 hours of running over 2000 rpm. I believe the EMM doubles the amount of oil for what most folks would call a break-in period. BRP says there is no break in and you can run it WOT out of the box....but the EMM is adding extra oil.

"The EMM, depending on the model, will double your oil usage for the first 2 or 5 hours above 2000 RPM." Taken from a very knowledgeable e-tec guy (not me of course.)

One thing that I've noticed...that might contribute to fouling...what's your water temps??? At idle and WOT?? I've read that engines running cold will load up.

Re: 225 E tec fouling plugs

Do you have an early model, 2005-2006, E-TEC and is your dealer trained and certified by the factory for those motors?

Give a model and serial number and I can give you specifics for you or your dealer to check.

My gut reaction is that you have a dealer problem more than a motor problem so I'd recommend that you talk to the factory customer service folks at 847-689-7090 and have the serial number handy. Get the person's name also.
