Do the 1994 225 HP Johnson's have water deflectors installed in the cooling passages in the block?

They are plastic water restrictor pins, not the rubber deflectors you might be thinking of.

Thank you Dhadley.

Are these pins installed internally?

Are these pins what was used by OMC after a certain year, in place of delfectors? Do they need to be replaced occasionally like delfectors do?

I suggest having the water mods done to block like the 99 and up ficht blocks . I have all my customers blocks done. You will pick up about 5psi in water pressure and improve cooling big time.(These mod's only for closed deck blocks)

Here are pictures of my spare block. All the factory deflectors are removed and new ones installed along with enlarging water passages. This eleminates hot spots and even temps out on block. Heat kills loopers as the locating pins migrate out of pistons and rings turn and hang in ports.

When the deflectors are removed, how much are the water passages enlarged? Are they just drilled bigger or ground out with a die grinder.

What size is the blow off hole drilled out to by the rectifier passage in the top of the block?

Thanks

Re: 225 HP 1994 Johnson Water Deflectors

OK gentlemen...
This is VERY interesting to me. I would like to do this mod on a used '98 225 powerhead before I install it. It is being replaced due to a burned up #1 piston on the previous powerhead.
What are the EXACT instructions? Can it be done while the motor is assembled, or does it have to be done when torn down for rebuild? You say replace the water deflectors....but are you using the exact same ones, or are they different in design?

PLEASE...some more info on this will be very welcome.
