the CCS wont apply to any OX 66 motor that starts with VX.
sx,lx,s all have CCS.

Re: 225 ox66 problems...

The engine idles in gear at about 600rpms but it is little rough. I usually bump it up to 800rpms to get this to go away. The engine hasnt run 100% since day one so I really dont know what it is supposed to do or what it should sound like. I can only go by what others tell me it is supposed to do. You are a very knowledgeable guy and I thank you for your time. Hopefully I can post back with positive results. Check your PMs rodbolt.

Thanks

Had the same problem...it was the 02 sensor. I've got twin 250's (98's) and have had to replace 02 sensors on both at one time or another. Rodbolt is the best...from my perspective I would put making sure that 02 sensor is good as the first priority of his suggestions. I got frustrated cleaning and trying to find someone who knew how to test, so I just plunked down the $275 for a new one, and got lucky I guess. Also, those motors do idle a little rough as they drop a couple cylinders at idle.

Re: 225 ox66 problems...

Update: Probolem is fixed. I broke down and bought a new o2 sensor. The engine now holds 5500rpm at WOT all the time.

I still have the smoking problem though. It does not smoke when I first start it for the day but on every start up after it lets out a pretty decent cloud. It goes away after a few seconds but it is still kind of annoying. I replaced the check valve in the oil line but that didnt solve the problem.

smoke on startup is pretty normal for OX66 motors.
do you pump the primer ball till firm before you start?
Gas in the VST tank can evaporate and leave a rich oil/gas ration in the VST.

Re: 225 ox66 problems...

The first start up of the day it does not smoke though. It is only after the initial start up that it will smoke.

I think I may have figured something out so maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I always thought that when the engine was warm that it smoked. I dont think it has anything to do with a cold or hot start. It has to do with the fact that the engine was tilted up before the inital start of the day and every start after that it had been down. So maybe the oil is getting somewhere it shouldn't when the engine is in the water? Any thoughts?

FYI - I replaced the check valve that goes from the oil tank to the VST tank this spring.

Thanks

tilt up or down smoking ONLY applies to 4 strokes.
unscrew the inline fuel check valve, dump the guts out and reinstall it.
todays fuel blends can and do cause the valve oring to swell and stick the shuttle.

Re: 225 ox66 problems...

Really... Well that shoots my idea right out the window. I took the check valve off last summer. I did have oil in the air box when I took it off to clean the injectors. It came out of the hole where the vacuum line connects to the box.

Would a link and sync help with excessive smoke?

Thanks

I adjusted the oil pump again and now smoking is very minimal. The engine probably could use a good sync and link though. It doesn't look that complicated but does anyone have any tips for a rookie?

Thanks
