1995 225 pro max I know for a fact it is stripped bunch of plastic on driven gear. Do you have to split the powerhead or can you sneak it out by pulling the power head off the lower and remove the lower crank seal housing and pull the crank bgr.? I build motorcycle road racing engines so i am fully capable of doing it. just lack real world tricks on it. manauls sometimes leave you doing to much to get the job done. What a dumb arse idea... plastic gear on the crank who would think that would last.

No comment on the theroy of the gear.........however, CDI / Rapair is marketing an electronic module that replaces the crank driven deal. A very sharp unit.

If you are taking a Pro Max to the full rpm capabilities you may want to think about pre mixing anyway.

Just curious....what kind of boat?

ON THE YAMAHA CRANK THE OIL DRIVE GEAR IS ON THE CRANK ON THE INSIDE OF THE BOTTOM MAIN BEARING. YOU NEED TO PULL THE CRANK TO CHANGE THIS GEAR. ON THE MERCURY POWER HEAD YOU CAN PULL THE CRANK CASE HALF AND SNEAK THE GEAR OUT. ITS A TWO PEICE GEAR. YAMAHA IS A PRESS FIT. I WOULD REPLACE THE OIL PUMP WHEN YOU CHANGE THE GEAR. VINNEY

Re: 225 pro max stripped oil pump drive gear

the boat is a 21 xrd bullet dual console bass boat and yes it runs :) for a almost 22 foot boat it will cruise w.f.o. with two guys gear livewell full ect at 75 mph with just me in it 80 mph gps I have been tourny fishing with this and it gets run hard. The dealer that i got this from are all tenn. river bass fishing guys out of chatanogga. (they are nuts) if the boats do not run 95 they will not use it. I have had it since it was new.
So on to the fix. where do I find this new electronic rig? the motor is propped right it turns 6200 (pro max is more rpm) I do not ski with the boat it just goes from hole to hole. Sometimes I need to go slow like running over a road bed looking for fish on the graph. Will pre mixxing load the plugs up at low rpm and create a problem? If i just pre mix do i just plug the hose at the mix chamber and remove all the oil tanks make a block off plate and remove the pump? Is the variable injection crummy? It has worked good up intil now. No I did not run it hot the horn whent off just as I was coming to weigh in I shut it off and trolled it to the trailer. I would like to run it with the injection but if you guys that work on these daily say junk it I will. Never mind the the org post about sneaking the gear out I looked at the wrong picture the case needs to be split. Thanks for you time and if you guys need any perfomance tips on bikes(no harley's) feel free to e-mail or post it on Wera.com message board lots of info there about racing i am on there all the time under huffdaddy also since this motor is a differant breed where could i get a better manaul this thing is a cross breed no alternator and mechanical ing. advance ect. the clymer is ok but you need to take from one model to the next. motor model 1-925311rh serial 0d936128

new question for the same problem... Where can I Get a metal gear to replace the plastic on on the crank. I have talked to the dealer that I bought it from they still recomend the vro system so i am torn...... fix it.. scrap the sys...pre mix it and forget it....or get aftermarket electronic

6200 is nothing for the motor but starting to wander into the limits of the plastic gear. You don't want a metal one there.....think about it. The premix will not load up a motor if mixed correctly and the motor is set up correctly (right brand and type plugs - ignition OK etc.). I'm sure that with time you will get closer to the 6700-6800 rpm range so it's probably time to move on away from the gear anyway.

The electronic box is a real neat looking deal and avoids worring about the sacrifical part.

Good luck!

Ok i get it dump the junky gear and pump. And now i got the bug to go and play. stupid scream and fly:) I will be mixing the oil in the tank at 50:1 good/ bad it is a stock 225 promax unpainted block Next mod after i get rid of the oil sys.??
reed cage? cly. head mill to cc? will i need a differant ecu one that maps be changed? change to higher compression will need to run 40:1? would like a 260 motor but this is what i got for now. So 6200 is not enough ok i am all about more rpm i have a tuned quicksilver 26 and have tried a 25 of the same type and it will rev more but slows down so it sounds like i need more push power:)I can run a 4 blade and it revs good and speed is good but it gets a little slippery on the top end too much lift I can lower the motor some to help but am dragging to much. the lower unit is a bullet nose low water pick up

Too much lift? I didnt know there was such a prop!! Lol!!

I wouldnt worry about motor mods until you get everything there is to get with that motor.

What jackplate do you have?

well you are going to get me here.. it is a 12 inch rapid jack manual one sorry no hyd here. but i have worn the bolts out moving it up and down and running for results. I have to really drive it up on plane but after you get the feel it is easy. these boats are not just mash the gas pedal down and you go fast.. Running full tilt boggie the top 1/3 of the prop is out of the water if you drive it right. the other blade i am talking about is a five blade through prop exh. it rips out of the hole but no matter where the motor is it moves around to much for me to be comffy with it feels like is has power sterring and does not react easy while on plane. Like the boat is out of the water to much. the three blade speed prop is a 14 inch solid hub and it has good feel and boat is stable on top i have to raise the motor about 3 1/2 inchs to run it. I have a bunch of hours with this boat and feel like i am doing it right. But the saying goes you can do something wrong for years and claim you know what you are doing... soory if it is to much detail. the boat is rock solid at 75 mph and if you do come off a wave you land the same way you came off nose stays put:) I like the lenght it just runs on top of the waves:) and does not beat you to death. water pressure is always good @20-25 psi 6200
