I have a 1994 225HP Evinrude OceanPro. Last Saturday I had to keep it at 3800 RPM to keep it from skipping during my way in from a fishing tripo. The next day I flushed the engine, then went to check the plugs. I was surprised to see about 2" of water standing inside the motor housing! The plugs looked slightly fouled, more sticky than moist with oil.

Did my water pump go out? I don't think the motor is overheated and it starts fine. I'm thinking the water may be the cause of the skipping.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: 225HP Evinrude Problem

One of the hoses may have sprung a leak or the hose for the overboard indicator came out of the grommet and is filling the pans with water. No matter how the water got in there it is being injested into the motor. It's very important to cure the water leak and run the motor to flush out any water inside. You will find some small hoses going to the top and lower bearing areas. Spray fogging oil or outboard oil into each of them, run the motor and do it again. You may want to think about adding extra oil to the gas. You must run the motor long enough to get the block up to temp. The water is going to be very hard to get out so the more you run it the better.
Good luck!
