228tr stuck in reverse

I have a 1979, 40' Harbor Master houseboat. With twin 228tr motors out drives. Without telling my soap opera leading to this.
My main problems are; My Starboard 228tr motor is stuck in reverse and starts in reverse.
My Port 228tr motor starts in reverse. (there is a long story leading up to how this came about)

No one here in western KY/TN area want to mess with trying to fix. I do have Original motor manuals and #2 service manual but nothing covers what I need to know how to fix.
What sources can I get for the electric motors?

tr/trs electric shift assys and parts are nla from mercruiser

you may have a dealer try mercnet nla parts search - someone somewhere may have parts in stock

otherwise you will have to go to a mechanical shift assy/transmission
