Re: 23 yo Volvo bearing carrier removal

This is not my design but was given to me by our friend, Rick, AKA Bounty.

Only issue I had with it was the last lower I had was very stubborn and while jacking out, the rod started to twist.

I upgrade to the 1/2'" rod coupled to the 7/16, with some light heat and excellent results. :D

Off to bed now..... Worked hard all night, except for the hour I sneaked away and did some quick resealing of a pair of DP-C and DP-A cylinders at my work bench, lol.

Hope everyone has fine Sunday.

Re: 23 yo Volvo bearing carrier removal

I used Billybayliner's tool, only I used 5/8" threaded rod. The bearing carrier came out without a problem. I would not have been comfortable placing the force I needed on the end of the inner prop shaft. The old seal has worn a very slight groove in the shaft. On to the next questions... Do the seals come as a kit or can I get just the 4 shaft seals and o rings? Are aftermarket u joints acceptable to use? Are there any tips for removing the steering fork from the steering shaft? the bolt is frozen so I assume I need to heat it, but before that I have to take out the trim angle sender. I am doing this because the seering is rather stiff.
