I have a freshly built bottom end and a freshly blownup 235 Evinrude around a 84 model. Is there any other size or model powerhead that will bolt up to this? Shopevinrude doesnt go back far enough.

Thanks,

Re: 235 powerhead swap

welcome to iboats!

you can go to shopevinrude.com and compare driveshafts from various years if the parts # for the driveshaft is the same it will fit. youl have to put in your info under parts and go to the gearcase and look at #35.

Not sure exactly what midsection you have. Is it from that 84 235 or was it from a different block? If it is from the 235, the midsection powerhead adapter will only take a big block bubble back engine. Another 235 or a later 175 between 1986 and 1991. These later 175's were underrated 235's.

Correrct. Any 160 cid crossflow powerhead will bolt up to your 235 adaptor plate in the midsection. None of the 149 cid powerheads with the flat exhaust plates will bolt to your 235 adaptor plate. The driveshaft isn't the issue, it's the way the exhaust is routed on the 160 cid blocks & midsection.

Basically any powerhead that has the same exhaust (bubble back) as yours will work.

Thanks for the response. This should help. Any Idea what the cyl presswure should be cold on this engine? I have had two mechanics tell me two different answers and they are about 40 lb apart.

As long as all are within 15 lbs youre OK. Depending on what heads and head gaskets you have there could be a wide spread in actual numbers.

i didnt know that. i thought if the splines,diameter,etc.. on the driveshafts were the same they would interchange.

thanks for the heads up guys.

All V6 cranks have the same splines, looper and crossflow. As do V4s (73 & up) and V8s.
