ok this is my 1st post im going to try to explain this the best as i can.ok i got a 85 tide craft with a 85hp force that my grand paw gave me about a year ago that he got new well it sat up for 3 years befor he gave it to me. me and him get it out to the lake put it in and it would run and idle but when you give it all the gas , anout the time it starts to plans out it want to bog down. so we go back to the truck and get a spray bottle and put gas and oil in it and goback out on the water and take the spray bottle and when it bogs i would spray gas in carbs and it would pick back up as long as i spray gas in the carbs. so i get home pull the carbs off and clean all the crap out the bowls clean all the srew hole and jets things. when i pulled the srews out i counted the turns and put then back that many . i change the gas lines and the prime bulb and put some sea foam in the gas . i take back out and try to run it agine and it still does the same thing and some time now the prime bulb sucks it self flat. it acts like it its not get gas. WHAT DO YALL THINK IT CAN BE

Howdy, TC.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Sure sounds like you forgot to open the vent on the fuel tank or the pickup in the tank is clogged, TC. The fuel pump has to be working to suck the primer bulb flat and the carbs have to be working to get her going at all.

It's not getting gas! If the primer bulb goes flat, then there is a restriction in the line before it. Check the gas tank. some have a screen in the bottom of the pick-up and that may be partially clogged. Also check the male quick connect fitting if you have one. You will need to unscrew it and check the threaded end. Crud collects behind the spring and will restrict fuel flow.

You can also try buying a cheap tank in Wal-Mart--6 Gal Attwood, about 14 bucks-- and a new male fitting, about 6-7 bucks. Less than 25 bucks and it is always good to have an extra tank. If that solves the problem, your tank and fitting are definitely dirty.

Very bad idea to run a 2 stroke wide open without a load, Bob.

They are very likely to go into a diesel cycle "Thermal Runaway" in which they over-rev and cannot be stopped with the throttle or the ignition switch. Only cutting off fuel can stop them if they don't turn into a grenade first. Too often the grenade comes first. Don't stand close.

Watched a shade-tree wrench blow a nice Spirit 85 into a thousand pieces doing that. His customer was standing there and got a chunk of rod cap in the chin.
