IMO you would be better off using a marine paint. It's designed to survive in the harsh marine environment.
That doesn't mean that you have to by the expensive stuff at a boat/marine store. I like the RustOleum marine paints that you can find at places like Menards. That's what I used on my swim platform when I rebuilt it and it's going on 2 years so far with no need to even touch it up. Here's the thread to the rebuild.
Monohull inboard, inboard/outboard boats and airboats less than 20 feet in length must complywith a flotation system called Basic Flotation. Section 4.0 contains the requirements and tests.
Basic flotation is the simplest type of flotation mode covered in this regulation. It simply requires
that the boat be manufactured with sufficient flotation material to keep it afloat in the event of a
swamping. It does not, however, require that the boat remain in an upright or indeed any specific
position. It may float, and usually does, in a “spar” position, the bow sticking up and the stern sunk.
I used Rust-o-leum on my recent paint job on my boat....... 81 Checkmate Restoration thread
I would have have used the Marine top side paint...but they did not have the color i wanted. So used the Regular oil base enamel.
I sprayed it on and it turned out better than i thought it would....If i do another i would use a 1 step or 2 step paint process.
But my budget did not allow it.
By all means i would put down at-least 3 coats of primmer before the paint!
Good Luck on your project...and post some pics!
Ask away Viper....I couldn't have done my resto without the help from the iboats folks. Great people and lots..n lots of info with the right way to do it!
Or on the pics........I take them with my phone and email them to my email and save the pics in my pictures document area. Then when i want to post in a thread.... go to advanced and click on attachment and a window will pop up ( Manage Attachments) then go from there.

Some of us guys are pretty old around here and our eyesight isn't as good as it used to be, could you post some bigger pics?
Is this an aluminum or fiberglass boat? It looks like aluminum to me in the pics, but like said I can't see it that good.
