I have a 25 hp Evenrude it has a fuel enriching valve. It clicks when you push the key in to choke but does not work. So it won't start, if you hold your hand over the carb it starts right up! and runs fine at idle and high speed. question is can I take it apart and clean it out or is this not something repairable?

The clicking thing is the solenoid. It should have a coathanger-sized wire running from the plunger in it, to the choke plate on the carb. It's probably as easy as hookin up this wire to the choke plate.

Hi George

Yes the solenoid can be disassembled and diaframe changed. It has 4 screws in the end towards motor. First i would check if it can get fuel from the intake hoze - disconnect choker hozes from above carb and intake plate on left side of motor and intake hoze from fuel pump tee. Put intake hoze in a cup of fuel ( beware of fire risk and sparks ) and activate choker a couple of times. If fuel squirts out, some of your hozes must be blocked.

Hay 12 FOOTER. The selonid doesent have a linkage! And there is no choke plate. But that was good thinking though! That was what I thought was going on too when it wouldn't start. YO: G DANE. You know what kind of set up this is. Cause it does have the hoses hooked up to it. Ok I will try what said, but I won't get to do it till this spring as the boat is stowed for now. Thanks a lot this sounds like what I need to check out. I've ben reluncent to try anything till got input from someone about it. Thanks again! :) :)
