25 hp Merc not charging

My new '03 Merc 25 hp 2 stroke didn't start today, dead battery. When I did get it started, I noticed that it wasn't charging. This is an electric start motor. Searching the forums, looks like the rectifier is a common culprit. How can I test it? Or better yet, how can I troubleshoot the system? Thanks!

I sent you the manual for a reason, though I have not heard a response whether you got it or not. If you did get it, look at Battery Charging System Troubleshooting under Section 3C, page 34. You can check both the alternator and the rectifier when you disconnect the rectifier.

I got a user's manual, thanks. But no service manual. There's no technical info in the one I have...
