I have a new 2004 Johnson 25hp short shaft motor. I have oem 5" extension made by OMC in 1986. Comes with engine/exhaust tube rubber mounts and a gasket for between the powerhead and exhaust tube. Is it necessary to pull the powerhead and install these mounts or not and go with the other parts only, new drive shaft, shift shaft, water tube , mid section spacer, and extension tube?

Re: 25 johnson extension kit question

I had the same conversion done with a kit I got on e-bay and we chose to not pull the powerhead to install the mounts and new shiftshaft. The main problem with not pulling the powerhead is getting to the shift shaft connector (under the powerhead) my mechanic chose to make up a shift shaft extension that goes down in the lower unit avoiding that problem.
