25hp 1971 compatible lower unit gears

Sorry, I put this on the wrong forum the first time.. Total beginner.....<br /><br />I have a 25 hp 1971 evinrude ((25102S-E05465) that needs a new clutch dog and forward gear. New are very pricey and I have access to a few older lower units, similar vintage.<br /><br />Are there a range of year/model/horse power that the same lower unit gears are interchangeable? I can't believe that the 25 hp uses a unique set of gears vs. a 15 or 20 hp of like vintage and style.<br /><br />Thanks<br />Greg

Hi Greg,<br />I think youve got to find out the hard way: Go to the BRP online parts catalogue and check through the part numbers of all lower units that you can get a hand on.
