I ran into an issue while converting a motor to remote from tiller. ha ha - well, I ran into a bunch of issues, but I'll post this fun one here. I turned the nut on one of the solenoid terminals and broke the copper lead inside the thing. (apparently you have to be careful not to overtighten the bottom nut - who knew? Anyway ...) I already replaced the solenoid, but the motor would still not turn over (no click nada). I checked everything and read here and eventually figured out the grounding wire on the solenoid was not actually grounding and if I jumped a wire off that same connection to the block, it would turn over fine at the key switch. So, I trace the original ground wire to see if I can fix the connection and it runs up onto the top of the motor under the flywheel. Really? What does it go up under the flywheel for? Can I just leave the thing and add in a 2nd wire that grounds to the engine block? Seems to work ok, but really - why on earth does the ground wire for the solenoid - the small one - not the battery cables for the starter, run up under the fly wheel?

I added in a little jumper wire, but I'm sure that's not 100% correct, but it seems to allow the starter to work.
