I need to power my Starcraft SF-16 deep-V aluminum boat (weight approx 275lbs.) Currently it has a borrowed 1990 Evinrude 25hp 2-stroke tiller, which pushes the boat nicely. My options are a new '03 Johnson 25hp 2-stroke J25TELST or a new '04 Yamaha 25hp 4-stroke F25ELHC. I like the noise & smoke advantage of the 4-stroke but will I give up the performance of my current 2-stroke? I've heard the smaller 4-strokes have some vibration at low speeds (like trolling.) How about maintenance? Thanks for any help

Smoke, smell, noise all favor the Yamaha. I think the fuel economy and emissions are likely better too. I would go with the Yamaha.

4 stroke may weigh too much for that boat
