Well as most know i have been trying to decide on a new 20hp 4stroke suzuki or a 20hp merc.I was looking on a site for the heck of it and came across a brand new in the box 25hp 2stroke yamaha, short shaft, electric start. The issue i'm having is it's $3400+tax.My question is would anyone pay that type of money for a brand new 25hp 2stroke motor?

We all know how rare they are,you can't find them new anywere anymore. This was a fluke of a find.I called the marina i saw it at and they verified they do indeed have it.I was shocked. It's actually a 2008 model, but as we all know if bought today it would be considered a 2013 because they eliminated model yrs on outboards. It comes with the standard 2yr warranty not that it will need it.

I just wanted to know if it's worth spending an extra 1k on it?

while I can't speak to the price, the reason they can ask so much is because a lot of people believe the 2 stroke is a better motor than the 4 stroke. Agree or not, you have to acknowledge there are differences, and thus there are preferences between the two.

It's a machine---they all break and some sooner than others. I'd want the warranty. My dad's 25hp yamaha 2006 model had a bent shift linkage and never shifted right until I found out it was boogered up when I rebuilt the whole engine due to a disintegrated main bearing cage. The crankshaft has press-fit piston rods that I had to send off to Wisconsin to get them replaced, along with the bearings. The pistons were extremely difficult to source. The yamaha 25 is a darned good engine, but there's always an exception to the rule.....
NOS 25hp 2-stroke outboards will increase some in value for people like myself that don't like to change when the change isn't necessarily a good one.
