Hey guys new to the forum! Looks like a good number of members helping people out!

Ok A friend just gave me a 1976 25 hp Evenrude. Model 25602E Ser. e0008392

Its been sitting outside without a cover for about 3yrs now and was running at the time it was last on a boat.

Question number one!

1.Does this engine have points? If so is there a way to convert it over to an electronic ignition ( for a reasonable price )?

2.Its not firing ( looks like a rat chewed on one wire and the other coil doesn't have a wire in it. )
I was told that some of these coils have a plug in and others have a screw in type wire. How can you tell which you have by just looking at it and where is the cheapest place to get these coils?

3.&4. EDIT: Soliciting is strictly forbidden.

5. Is there a way to have it where I can be sitting further up and steer the boat from a different location in boat without having my arm on that handle.
Is there some sort of conversion-kit or someone out there have some pics of theirs?

Its going on a Monarch 16ft Jon-boat.

Here is a pic of about what I got.

This might help some, can't answer about the ignition, but why do you want to eliminate the points? http://old-omc.de/start.html It is a robust system with just a little bit of maintenance.
There are "stick steer" units available or you could use a tiller extension that will put you more in the middle of the boat. http://www.nicksoutboardmarine.com/steeringpg6.html
Not cheap, but you might be able to search for more.

EDIT: We would appreciate it if you don't use our facilities to promote the competition

does that model have a brass shear pin or clutches on prop? That is if I hit something with prop. I am wondering if I need to take another shear pin when I go out.

Rubber hub in the prop, shear (drive) pin is made of steel or stainless steel. It's only supposed to come into play in a catastrophic situation. Rick

You have to sand em down if u don't use it and they get to where they won't fire etc..

I find points system simple, reliable, and a LOT cheaper to replace if they go bad.

Best advice I could give would be to dump the clymer manual and get a real one. OEM manual will be the best tool you can have.
