1985 evinrude 25hp-
I had a couple little problems with the engine last year but it did run strong but it seemed a little unreliable so I took it in to the shop and told them to fix everything. Five hundred dollars later I got it back (they did repair multiple problems), they said it ran very strong, and idled well. I took it out for a trial today and it started easily idled very smooth but when I gave it power it would jump then sort of bog out, if I got out of the throttle it would return to idling smooth. I thought it must be the old gas that sat all winter so I dumped the tank and refilled with fresh gas. Took it back out but the engine ran the same, I thought it may just need to run the old gas out of the line so I putted around for a half an hour but it never changed. Any thought or suggestions on what the problem could be?

Is there such a thing as an outboard that just runs good all the time? I've never had one:confused:

I assume that for $500, there is some sort of warranty coverage?

Did they clean and rebuild the carburetor? Remove the screw/bolt that you'll see at the bottom front portion of the carburetor float chamber. If the back of that screw/bolt is coated with gunk, gum, whatever, instead of being perfectly clean, suspect the high speed jet of being fouled, gummed up somewhat.

That jet would be located in the center bottom portion of the float chamber. If this should be the problem, possibly you can clean it out sufficently with a piece of single strand wire, otherwise you would need to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor.

This is assuming that you have compression and spark as it should be.
