I have a 25hp Evinrude electric start. While idleing, it stalled. Now I cannot turn the throttle and motor won't start. I can shift it to forward, nuetral and reverse fine. In nuetral the prop turns freely and while in forward or reverse the prop is engaged like it should be.

The mystery to me is why is the throttle frozen?

Any assistance, suggestions hugely appreciated.

Thank You.

Lewis

You could have a linkage problem, of course, but you should not be able to advance the throttle past the start point unless the motor is in gear. Are you able to fully advance the throttle when the motor is in gear? (Don't force it into gear, by the way. Turn the flywheel or prop slightly if you need to -- best to disconnect the battery first, just to be safe.)

Thanks for the reply. This is my first boat(1989 16' Starcraft with a 1990 motor)and this happened on its maiden voyage. The motor goes in gear smoothly, but not able to turn the throttle with it in gear. I have not yet tried turning the prop with it in gear other than a light push to feel it was engaged. Also, the linkage at the carburator works smoothly when I manually move it up and down.

Hmmm. Doesn't sound like a feature. Wait for additional feedback, but it sounds like it is a linkage problem somewhere. Look up by the flywheel (tiller side of the flywheel) and see if you can see what is binding (with the engine off).
