thelightning..... My thoughts are with the bigger motors you will get the best performance from them with a hp. rated boat and the boat can still be small and a thrill to drive.

My own quote, so here's pic's of mine. It's a small utility boat like yours but factory built and designed to handle a lot of ponies. I've had this boat 39 years.
Boat is 207 lbs., length 14 ft. with 4 1/2 ft. beam, round chine and 15 inch transom. Rated for 40 hp.
If it's set up for speed it will go to fast for me, 50 mph.

hhe yeh i saw those pics somewhere.. a handcontrolled 40hp.. too cool ;)
But merc 30hp lightning is really the max my boat can handle.. more will just be too heavy.
I also see your engine is perfectly allined with the botton of the boat, not like mine. my anti-cavitation plate is below the bottom of the boat so i think i should mount the engine higher but i will get more prop blowouts.. and i already have so many :(

Hey Mr.Lightning.

A "teather" is a kill switch that has a plastic "fork" that when pulled out kills the ignition. It is attached to a lanyard that you are supposed to loop around your wrist or attach to your belt. PWC's and snowmobiles have 'em. If you get thrown from the boat it kills the engine. Saftey feature for speed freaks.
