25hp mariner problem question

Found a 25hp mariner non elec start or power trim for sale. The guy states that he knows nothing about the engine and I have not heard it run yet. Has there been any serious problems with these motors? It is an 89' looks to be in good shape. I can probably get it for less than 500 bucks. Thanks in advanced for any info. Brian

Hmm...you haven't heard it run...the owner doesn't know anything about it...I'd be really cautious about dropping $500 on it or any other engine.<br /><br />Hear it run, preferably on a boat in the water, before you spend anything for it. That's my advice.<br /><br />Mariners are OK, but a little harder to find parts for than some.
