I have had issues with the carb that came with the boat. Its a carter 4bbl, I want to send it out to get remanufactured, but I was thinking about an edelbrock performer carb. Can this work, because they are cheaper new then having my carb rebuilt.

I was going to ask, how can new be cheaper than a rebuild - but I saw you location....

Your engine doesn't care which carb is sittin' on top of it - it is all in the tuning. Out of the box, the edelbrock is a good match to your 350.

pepboys sells an 670cfm edlebrock performer series, I was fearing float issues because of the angle of the boat planning off,

I dot think they sell marine carbs though. You cannot use tue 1405, 1406, etc. You have to use a marine carb like the 1409.

I have the 1409 and second Bond-o's recommendation.

I would be more worried about the HUGE explosion at startup......

Use a MARINE carb ONLY....

how complicated is rebuild on 4bbl. I had a 470 merc with 2bbl. That was cake to rebuild. Just nervous with 4bbl. Is there a pdf on rebuilds?

Just add a second slice.....

FWIW - edelbrock IS the new carter....You can get all of the manuals for the performer carbs on the edelbrock website....

I would try rebuilding what you have, but if you want to buy a new carb.......S-K Speed on Rt 109 has the 1409, I bought one there a few years ago.
They may even have a rebuild kit for you.

ok cool. I'm gonna look online for the rebuild book on the 4bbl carter and take a whirl at it. I have done 2bbl before so 4bbl shouldnt be that much harder.

Rebuilding a 1409 style carb is pretty easy. The rebuild kit comes with instructions if I remember correctly. If not there is a PDF manual you can download online at edelbrock.com

Differences between a marine carb and an auto one is that tue marine carb does not vent excess fuel into the engine compartment. An auto carb does.

On the Edepbrock 1409 marine carb, the jets are different than the 1405 auto version.

There is a bit more differences between an auto and a marine carb than fuel vent locations...

Edelbrock marine carbs comply with U.S. Coast Guard safety standards. Cast surfaces are iridited with Teflon-coated shafts and pump arms for maximum protection.Modified bowl venting, specially designed throttle shafts, an accelerator pump seal, a 3/8 in. inverted flare fuel inlet fitting, tube in airhorn for fuel pump vent, a 5 1/8 in. flame arrestor flange, a universal throttle lever, and revised secondaries for improved transient performance...
