At about 2,000 rpm my temp gauges settle at about 150* (flybridge and below show same reading). Is this a little cold?

If that 2000 rpm is in neutral, it's probably fine, what's it go to when out on the water and under load?

150* after running an hour at 7+ mph. One tach says 1,850, the other says 1,950. Above 2 grand she still won't hit 160*.

Not much of a load, what's it do on plane?

Right now she won't get on plane. I believe she's overpropped or slipping. She'll turn 4,100 and only go 14+ mph (15p prop 1.61 drive). Even trying to grunt her up for 5-6 minutes at WOT the temp only gets to 155.

Re: 260A Temp

maybe you have 140? thermostats in it? You have the correct gear ratios, and a 15 p prop is about as low as you want to go. You have other problems if it won't get on step, that or it's not a planing hull boat.

It's a big heavy houseboat...supposed to do 28-30 mph.

Is a 140 thermostat OK to run?

Re: 260A Temp

Hey Don, I thought the AQ26A's ran a 160 degree thermostat. Same as AQ271C like mine, and my gauge rarely varies from 160 once it is warm. I put in a separate temp gauge because I have trust issues with my gauge in the dash. A 150 degree reading on a non-certified gauge might be the 160 mark I'm thinkin'.

i'm running a 160 deg. stat. in my aq260. I'd love to see that houseboat doing 30! Cool boat, btw. What is the condition of the motor? Compression numbers?

I bought the boat on eBay...it's the first I/O I've owned and you guys have been great helping me get my feet wet.
More aobut the boat here:
http://72land-n-sea.blogspot.com/2011/05/introduction.html

The motor was an upgrade/drop in and had less than 20 hours on it when I picked up the boat in Las Vegas. I have the work order and have been in contact with the shop that did the work. 'Haven't checked the compression but I'm confident the motor is in good shape. Click picture to hear her purr.

I pulled the drive and engine to get at the fuel tanks...had the drive resealed and at Don's recommendation had the intermediate bearing changed out. I liked everything I saw.

Presuming I have a 150? t'stat, the question still remains...is that too cold?

Re: 260A Temp

My 260a with new thermostat and exhaust manifolds ran 10 degrees under thermostat open range...attributed to gauge reading low.

A 160 is correct. My bet is that is what is in there now.

BTW, did you have the prop looked at yet?

I have a brand new 15p prop I'll try next time out. If that doesn't do it, I'll get a 13.

Re: 260A Temp

Just curious if you have tried trimming the drive up with the cross pin on the transom shield? If not move the pin up one hole further away from the transom. This might bring the bow up some more which will increase the speed and the rpm.

Normally drives are in position 2, but with as much weight as the bow has in the houseboat, you may want it in positon 1

Good thought Don. I'm in the middle now.
On another boat when I had trouble getting her on step I'd move a couple people forward to get her up, or trim way down, or put the tabs down...all productive efforts were 'bow down'. I'll try it both ways.
