I have a volvo aq120 b. I put the earmuffs on it and start it up, and no water comes out the exhaust.
Whoever owned the boat before me put a hose connection up beside the motor. If I hook the hose up there, lots of water comes out of the exhaust. Lots also comes out of the leg where the ear muffs go.
Leading me to believe nothing is plugged up.
On the water, the motor runs a steady 180. No overheating problems what so ever. So I assume it picks up through the leg while it is in the water. But wont pickup through the earmuffs in my yard.

It looks like the previous owner changed the bottom part of the leg. I say that because it looks like a completely different color.
Any ideas??

without pictures, none.

is there a bottom pickup on the hull?

I would grab the factory service manual for your drive and decipher what is what. if you ran the boat for more than a few seconds with a dry impeller, your impeller is now toast.

Those drives have a hole near the bottom front of the drive that you need to plug before running on muffs. You likely had water coming out of it when you turned on the water. Be prepared to replace your water pump impeller now.

Yes water was pouring out that hole. I checked the impeller, there was some water in there when i opened it up. It looked in good condition. I changed it last summer. I may change it again and keep this as a spare.

Find a tapered rubber plug and plug that hole the next time you run on muffs

A sharpie works in a pinch. I use a rubber stopper from the hardware 5

Duct tape. Heck I used to have a perfect dry stick in my toolbox, it fit perfect, lost it somehow.
