Hi all! I just had to replace my stock prop on my 84 Bayliner Capri with 270 Outdrive. I bought the Volvo prop and when I installed it, I noticed that their is about 1mm worth of play forward and aft of the propeller on the shaft. I have the orginal thruswasher, new zinc, nylon spacer, cone nut spacer and cone nut all installed. Is this amount of movement acceptable or should I shim the prop to stop this movement?

Thanks,

Mike

I called the marina I got the prop from and they told me to shim it with a galvanized or SS washer. I went with the stainless. So far, all seems well. If this was not the right thing to do, please let me know.

You probably did the right thing. The prop cone is supposed to tighten the propeller, not just "itself" on the prop shaft.
Never fails to have a few of those large nylon washers around. Can find them for like $5 for a bag of 5.
