Bob, I have never been asked, but I would not hesitate to go. Tell your friend the truth and show confidence.

Just use your common sense.
Do the usual preparation work as you would on your own boat (blowers on, engines warm, oil okay, enough fuel and throw the wheel max to max, etc.). Take your time getting out of the marina (it's a plus that you have wide spaces), just enough throttle to manuver. Think ahead and be able to shift the gears early to avoid any close calls. Have your friend stationed in the position early in case a shove-off is needed. Once you get out of the marina, experiment with the shifting in various ways until you get a feel for what does what. Do it again when approaching the marina after the cruise to re-familarize yourself with the shifting of gears, and take it slow. If posible, call the marina for some shore side hand(s) for assistance in tying up, most marinas are more than willing to help (in my experience).

I once was asked to pilot a mega yacht for one marina to another (short trip)and said yes. It never came to be though.

Have fun!

I just got promoted to First Class:cool:

By the way, what first caught my eye is the title of this thread. I thought maybe you were talking about a 28 INCH RADIO radio control boat.

Thanks again everyone. It went wonderfully. Getting out of the dock was no problem thanks to your supportive advice. Docking was a little more of a trick but we got it in OK. The weather was heavy in the Straits of Mackinaw but it was a thrill being out there and going under the bridge.

I've attempted to load some pictures.

To the nefarious nabobs of negativism, to wit: "...... So I won't comment on someone who tells a boat owner they are experienced in operating their type of boat, is asked to take her out, says yes, and actually has no experience. - Like I'd like to find out that a person that says they can take my boat in & out of the slip has no experience (I don't think so)."

By saying you are not going to comment you are commenting. That is passive aggressive communication and and a conversation ender. If you want to make a point start in a positive mode. The target of your sarcasm does not read or listen beyond the first words.

RE: Regular gig, not sure. I think she is going to sell her home and boat and move to colorado where he son and grandson live. I can understand that. It is a long winter. I am not sure. If I am not invovled with someone by the summer, (I live four hours away from her) Then I am sure I could go up and be her captain for the summer. I would really like that. It is tough not to get invovled with someone closer though.

Thank you Injun for your encourging advise.

It was a THRILL!
